How do i find the value of a bottle of pear brandy that is 36 yrs old?

How do i find the value of a bottle of pear brandy that is 36 yrs old?
First of all, you need to ascertain its condition. If it has been properly stored, was in darkness and consistent temperatures that do not get too high or fluctuate too much. If the bottle is in good shape, unopened, and there is no leakage around the seal, that's a good start.

Is the brandy a vintage product - does it have a year on the label that it was produced? This often makes it more valuable.

Now you can do a search on the web for the brandy, stating the manufacturer's name (and year if available) and the actual name of the product. If it is a well-known product, you will likely find it that way.

Alternatively, you could always contact the maker. They will probably be happy to help.
Reply:Throw it into the air and watch it go.... smash..... now thats priceless... You can't put a price on that. We only live once.. now thats feeling
Reply:That may make it priceless, but only because it no longer has value. I would like to know the answer to this question, too.

If you cannot find a value, give it as a gift to someone who can appreciate it. That's priceless!

What consists of the perfect pear or hourglas shape ?

i was just wonderinggggggg cause i have been told i was shaped like and hourglass, pear , all that stuff lol
What consists of the perfect pear or hourglas shape ?
I don't know about the exact measurements but as long as your top and bottom are pretty much proportional and your natural waist indents; that's an hourglass.
Reply:An hour glass figure has the same measurement across the bust as the hips and goes in at the waist, ie 36-26-36.

A pear shape is smaller across the bust than the hips and goes in at the waist, ie 36-26-38.

HTH : )
Reply:36 on top 24 in the middle 36 around the hips or at least that is what I have heard is "perfect" but seriously everyone is different and if you are happy with your body then you are perfect!

Can rabbits eat pear as a treat?

Yes. Treat Foods - In a total (of combined foods) amount of 1 heaped tablespoons per 1kg rabbit, you can give the following foods: Strawberries, papaya, pineapple, apple, pear, melon, raspberries, blueberries, apple pear, mango, peach, pear, or tomato. Dried fruits may be used as an alternative to the fresh listed above but use half the amount.
Can rabbits eat pear as a treat?
yes you can but don't give a lot just a vary small peace.
Reply:Rabbits shouldn't eat the pear seeds. Neither should they have apple or stone-fruit seeds; they have cyanide poisons.
Reply:not very much or none at all, stick to normal treats, rabbits are not like kids they really do like eating the same thing day in and day out.
Reply:Yes got to www.hsus.org for its a good website that tells all about the care of rabbits. I have 2 bunnies a albino female and her name is Bunny and 1 male Lop eared whose name is Precious.Love them both and they are so affectionate.Mine roam free in their own Bunny enclosure in a bunny proof room. And My CAT simply adores the bunnies although the white female dominates the cat as well as the other rabbit. Enjoy the love of a bunny
Reply:Only fresh, not canned. Too sugary! Dried is good too. And only a teensy piece. Give it timothy hay. They LOVE timothy hay.
Reply:very Small like 10/10 some thing like that my mom toll me
Reply:Yes as an occational treat but don't do it too often because it will make their poop runny. (sorry to be gross, but it's true) Your rabbit may not even like it, mine doesn't, but it's worth a try so give him a little. It doesn't hurt. The only fruit to stay away from is bananas because they can cause digestive problems.
Reply:Only a very small amount...like 1/10 of the pear a day. It is very watery and might give the bunny diarrhoea

I have a pear shaped body and i'm trying to lose weight, any suggestions?

i have really big hips and backside but skinny from my waist up. any suggestions on how lose these humps and bumps?
I have a pear shaped body and i'm trying to lose weight, any suggestions?
You'll even out a bit as you start to lose weight. I lost 30 pounds in about 3 months by working out about 5 times a week (swimming, working on the elliptical machine, doing yoga) and eating a healthy diet. That means, I actually eat 5-9 servings of fruits and veggies most days (some days I eat out and don't do as well). I also fill my plate up once, with a small but reasonable serving of whatever we are having. I eat pasta, spaghetti, mashed potatoes (with real butter), all kinds of veggies, chicken, hamburgers, ice cream, etc. I just try to keep a balanced diet. I've noticed that I'd rather eat a larger serving of chicken and skip a dinner roll. I also drink no sugar soda. If I go out and have a big meal once in a while, it's okay, I still slowly lose weight. I also find I don't want to eat as much because I know how much work it is to lose the weight.

I also weigh each morning. I didn't always lose weight (sometimes the scale goes up a bit), but I watched my weight drift down a pound a two each week. I stayed motivated at the end because even though I lost about 3 sizes, I didn't buy new clothes until I was at my goal weight.

    Best of luck,

  • I have bradford pear trees -when and how do you prune them to have them fill out more?

    Heres the info- no bull!

    Prune Before Spring

First, I must emphasize that the best time to prune is before warm weather sets in. Pruning is really a process of directing growth, that is, energy, in the ways you want it to go. So it's important to get it done in the winter, when all the tree's energy is still stored in the roots and the stems, waiting to be set loose by the coming of spring.

This also ensures that your tree gets a healthy head start: The pruning cuts you make will have a chance to begin healing before the arrival of the bugs and disease common in warm weather.

A good pruning cut starts at the collar of the branch.

    Height Limitations

Next, when working with fruit trees, you should remember to think of yourself. You don't want to have to haul out a 20-foot ladder to pick your pears. So I recommend pruning your tree to a height of about 12 feet. This will also enable the use of a homeowner-grade — rather than commercial-grade — equipment for any spraying you may need to do.

    Layered, Horizontal Branches

Within your 12 feet of fruit tree, you should prune with an eye for nice, layered branches. Remember, it's the horizontal branches that bear fruit, not the upright wood. Thus, effective fruit pruning will often entail some fairly dramatic cuts, especially to some of the larger vertical growth.

On a pear tree work toward creating three horizontal layers of branches — bottom, middle and top, each separated by about 30 to 36 inches. Also, each layer needs only about three or four branches, especially the lower layers, since more branches will tend to stunt the growth above them. And a final bit of common sense: Prune so that the tree is wider at the bottom layer than the top, which will prevent the top from shading out the bottom.

The cut should be made at an angle to help it shed water, then painted for protection.

    A Good Cut

Really good pruning cut starts at the collar of the branch. Cut out from there at a slight angle so it can shed water. After three or four days, your final step will be to paint the pruning cuts to protect the exposed wood from both the cold, fungus and insects. The delay in painting will give the cambium layer — the layer of living cells between the wood and the bark — time to heal, adding protection.

    This should help

    -Good Luck
I have bradford pear trees -when and how do you prune them to have them fill out more?
    in the fall
Reply:Vernalization (production of flowers) takes place in summer....never prune it in summer....otherwise you'll lose tons of pears ...
Reply:I agree with Cute_blondie, however keep in mind to watch for weak trunk and branches because bradford pears have a tendency to become weak and to split. aim at branches that are unusally weak or dead as this will be detremental to the health of the tree.
Reply:The best time to prune would be during the dormant season. All limbs should be removed so that a small collar is left on the trunk. You don't want a flush cut per say as that leaves too much exposed wood to callus over. If you start at the top of the crotch of the branch and angle slightly outward as you cut down then you will leave the right amount of wound. Also painting the wound is not necessary. Just make a clean cut.
Reply:Are u pruning for fruit prod. Bradford pears have small fruits if any on them.. To prune for fruit. Do inside out.. Make a clean cut at the collar 1/4 inch from it. Cut at an angle also.. This provides space needed for wind and pollination.. Cutting for shade, prune 1/2 of new growth on terminal twigs.

    Moonglow pear tree?

I just purchased and planted a moonglow pear tree..In reading on the internet about them it said area should be firebright resistant ...does anyone know what this means...Also when is the best time to prune this and what should i get to spray it with? Also how big do the pears get??
    Moonglow pear tree?
I think you mean "fireblight". That is a devastating disease in where the leaves and stems of the plant looks as if it was burned. I think that the cure is Streptomiacine. Any good lawn and garden center will have this. They sell it for apple trees, they get the disease most often.

The best time to prune is after the winter. If you prune in fall, and have a rough winter, you will have to prune off the dieback anyways so do it in spring just before the plant leafs out.

I dont think you have to spray pear trees with too much of anything but if you want to spray for bugs, look at "Neem oil"

Speak to your county extension agent for the best thing in your area. I dont remember how large moonglow pears are but I think that they are one of the better ones to have.

Fertilize with something like 5-10-15 or 6-12-12. The middle number is for flower production, the more flowers, the more fruit. Fertilize at least in spring and fall.

    Good luck!

Why does guitars have to be in pear shapes?

Electric or acoustic, its still a shape of a pear. Just wondering why not square, round or something?
Why does guitars have to be in pear shapes?
The "pear" shape is for comfort, I believe, especially if you play while sitting down. There are many shapes for guitars. A Flying "V", for example. Gene Simmons (of KISS) has played a bass shaped like a huge axe. The Misfits, if I remember correctly, had guitars shaped like coffins (rectangular). Most conventional guitars are "pear" shaped because they're just more comfortable to play.

  • I have five old and dying apple and pear trees,do i need permission to remove them?

Do you live on land that is not yours? or Are the trees protected somehow (as historically significant or something?) Are they too close to power lines or phone lines? Are the roots near water pipe or underground wires? Would they fall on to someone else's land once they are felled?

If you think you are in the clear of all of these things; then you should be ok to remove them. Otherwise talk to power company water company telephone company and neighbor about your intentions and see what each says they'd like you to do to mitigate damages.
I have five old and dying apple and pear trees,do i need permission to remove them?
If the land is yours, you can cut them down. If it is on the city property would need their permission to cut them down. All cities and villages have different codes cutting down trees.

Remember to call the power companies to determine where the lines are in the ground.
    Reply:No go ahead
Reply:I would not think so but are they listed on your deeds?
Reply:If you are the owner (not renter) of the property, I cannot see why you would need permission.
Reply:I'd be careful, some local councils will want to check out the trees first before you can get permission. Otherwise if the trees are on your property and not in party/shared land, it shouldnt be a problem.

Your opinion: Bradford pear vs hardwoods?

Callery pears (Bradford, Cleveland, Aristocrt) are indeed beautiful, early to flower, almost disease free, great summer and late autumn color. Fast growing, too. But I think they're too common in the midwest. The great old neighborhoods have mature hardwoods: red oaks, pin oaks, sugar maples, etc. Do you think homeowners in new subdivisions should plant more hardwoods? Even though payback is 15 -20 years away?
Your opinion: Bradford pear vs hardwoods?
I agree that Callery pear is over used. In Michigan, there's at least one installed with every new construction home.

I was at a customers home this last week, and she is 'in love' with them. While there, in her back yard, I counted no less than eight in sight. There were many more to be sure. Now they appear to be quite disease and insect resistant, but once a 'bug-a-boo' does hit, they'll fall like domino's.

It doesn't help that cities plant them by the hundreds, neighbors copy off one another, inexperienced landscapers use it because it's the only tree that they know, and it's the cheapest (I usually use inexpensive, but in this case I'll make an exception) tree on the market.

Have we learned nothing from; American chestnut blight, Dutch Elm disease, and now Emerald Ash borer?

I would much prefer to see 'hardwood' trees planted. Zelkova is great, Ginkgo, Dawn redwood, Linden, and ofcourse oak and beech are all very good trees. But instead: Callery pear, red maple and green ash.

Thanks for the opportunity to express. I like the diversity of answers, alot of people in or at least observing the industry.
Reply:Absolutely. Big, mature hardwood trees are what give older, established neighborhoods their comfortable vibe.

Pears are what I call "builder basic". It's the tree the builder puts in the front yard because he has to.. by law or code, or just to make the house look more appealing. You can judge the age many Midwestern subdivisions by the size of their Bradford pears. You can also tell if there has been a big windstorm recently by the number of Bradford pears that are only half a tree or are sprouting up from the stump of the tree that was destroyed in the last big wind or ice event.

The town I live in now offers homeowners a cash rebate if they plant 'desirable' trees. The trees are various cultivars of oaks and maples. It's a city sponsored program. tax dollars doing good work for the long-term good of the town- very refreshing!
Reply:If you are looking for a flowering tree, do not get the Bradford pear unless you know how to use a chain saw. It would be better to get a flowering crab apple or plant a hardwood known for its fall colors.
Reply:I agree. i like the hardwoods better. The Bradfords are beautiful, but way too common, they also will not hold up in a strong wind, and require a lot of pruning to retain their shape. Where i live in Arkansas, oaks are best suited. I planted a silver leaf maple three years ago, and it is doing well.
Reply:Bradford pears are beautiful, especially in the spring and fall. However, they are brittle and will snap in a strong wind. They won't last near as long as a hardwood. Also, some people think they look too "perfect" because of the round foliage shape. Hardwoods grow slower but last longer and you can find varieties that color up just as nicely as a Bradford in the fall.

Payback on a hardwood isn't necessarily that long, because you can buy a tree that is already fairly mature and will provide enjoyment within a few years. I think hardwoods are nicer in the long run and think homowners should go that route, but the problem is that the new houses are not designed to produce old, great neighborhoods from the past. They are thrown up quickly and packed close together. People these days want instant gratification and that's what they buy.
Reply:I agree with you, too many of those bradford pears, and they are not that pretty. I like big shade trees, like catalpa, sycamore, maple, oak, even pecan. Real trees.
Reply:I personally like the Bradford Pear, I love the white blooms in gets in the Spring, But I think as homeowners you have the right to plant what ever you want.
Reply:This is one of those compare apples to oranges kind of questions. faster growing trees vs. slower growing trees. I personally like the oaks and maples but feel that the majority will choose the faster growing trees.
Reply:I live in NC and Bradfords are very common here as well as tree removal services. We were very fortunate that the house we bought has a nice maple in the front yard.
Reply:I think hardwoods are beautiful. Also, how about pines of all sorts....they are so beautiful, and look great during the winter, especially when it is snowy....they make great wind breaks and have nice cones which are fun to gather and scent your house for the fall and winter season.....I don't know if your neck of the woods is right for white birches, but they are very beautiful ... they add light to the garden ....as do weeping willows, chestnuts, and exotic maples......
Reply:Hardwoods- period. The one drawback is that they require work (i.e. raking, picking up fallen seeds). The saddest fact is that too many people are lazy.

I would go one step past the native hardwoods and say native plants all the way. Better for native fauna and the water/upkeep bill!
Reply:I prefer Bradford's because of their hardiness. And, they aren't just common in your neck of the woods, they are common in mine too...Texas. I like Live Oaks as well, but my yard is too small for one.
Reply:YES. I love hardwood trees especially oak trees. I also like Birch trees, I think they are just pretty. and the Redbud tree as it matures is lovely also.

I've always been told that the BradfordPear was pretty easily broken by ice and wind storms. They are a pretty tree though.

Have you looked at the Australian wind break trees they are a fast growing tree and great for property if you are in the country and need to stop some wind.
Reply:I'd go with the hardwoods because that's what I have in my yard and I love them. I live in a area in zone 7 that has fairly mild winters, however our winds are unbelievable at times and we are prone to at least one good ice storm every other year. If you drive through my town you would see Bradford pears with big bite marks out of their canopies because of where the ice or wind claimed several of the tree branches. Bradfords are lovely, but even their own weight can break the branches. My neighbor has two Bradfords and I was actually present one day when his tree dropped several big branches for no reason other that the fact that they are weak. Now the tree looks like Rubber Band man's head. Anyhow, there are other Pears that have been bred to be stronger and more upright than spreading so if people want Pears then they should get them, but I'd stay away from the Bradford Pear.

  • Revive a pear tree!?

I JUST MOVED IN TO MY NEW HOUSE LAST SUMMER WITH A BEAUTIFUL PEAR TREE AND A POMOGRANT TREE. THIS YEAR THEY BARELY BLOOMED. ANY SUGGESTION FOR NEXT YEAR.
    Revive a pear tree!?
It could have just been a late frost. If you have a late frost, it will kill a lot or even most of the flower buds. Don't worry, it should bloom good as new as long as another late frost doesn't get a hold of it.
Reply:Sometimes when fruit trees are in a lawn they get too much nitrogen from the lawn fertilizer. This causes a lot of vegetative growth but not much reproductive growth. When it's time to fertilize in the spring try going around the trees with the lawn fertilizer and use some fruit tree spikes. They provide more phosphorous which should push more blooms.

And it's a possibility, as was earlier said, it could have been nothing more than a late frost that killed the flower buds.
    Reply:They need to be pruned.

Get to the emergency room now. You may have anaphalaxis, a severe allergy reaction that can be deadly.

This can only be treated in the hospital or with an adrenelaine shot. Do NOT mess around. Get help before you develop trouble breathing.

Call an ambulance or have someone drive you to emergency.

dont say something like "you look top heavy" or "you look bottom heavy" that doesnt tell me anything. like describe how the measurements would be to determine it. thanks
How do you know if you have a pear or apple shape?
a pear shape just means that your butt its bigger than your bust and stomach..

    so someone who was like

46 for hips, 35 for stomach and 30 for bust would be pear shaped.

apple shaped i think is like same measurements for stomach, butt, and bust ...or around the same. idk
    Reply:Example of a pear shape: 34-26-38

With a pear shape, the hips are bigger than the bust and the waist/hip ratio is less than 0.8.

With an apple shape, the bust and hips are around the same size and the waist/hip ratio is more than 0.8.

  • Do you eat any fruit skins? and if so which ones (banana, pear, kiwi, satsuma, coconut, mango, orange)?

Only pear, grapes, plums, peach, all berrys, nectarines and apples. Mind you you can make chutney with water melon skin - recipe cookeryclub. Some people eat kiwi skin but I don' think it tastes nice. You can make a cordial with pineapple skin leaving it overnight soaked in water and sugar. The rest is good for composting. The brown skin around the coconut is edible but not preferable - not the hard shell of course. Citrus fruit can be used in cooking.

i just ate one of my last verry ripe pears and in the mittle saw tiny seeds i put them in some soil and watered them then put them in a plastic tray with a lid to act as a green house i hope they grow if they do i want to keep them in the house for a while will this work???
An i grow a pear from seed??
    maybe
    Reply:Yes, you probably can.

I'm not sure exactly what is the best way to grow them though so these seeds might not grow. But if they do sprout you can grow a pear tree, its probably better to keep the plant inside for a bit then in a larger pot outside maybe until its big enough to plant outdoors.

When you grow fruit trees from seed though, the new tree will probably not produce a fruit exactly like the one you got the seeds from. It might be a little different or it might even taste a little gross. Also, it takes years for fruit trees to start producing fruit. Its still a cool idea though- hope it works:)

pear.it features a relatively small waist, with the right clothing, the heavier hips/thighs are more easily disguised.the poor apples have thick waists and tubby bellies, harder to deal with or hide.they do have gr8 legs tho,but i think a sexy upper half and heavier bottom is prettier than being top heavy.just personal choice.i am sort of straight.

  • I'm pear-shaped wide hips can i still wear skinny jeans if so how?

Pear shaped women are very attractive I think, good for you, anyways, flared jeans help even out your body and likely short torso...dark colored bottoms and bright tops are good for pears..smaller pockets make your hips and booty look less wide, skinny jeans generally are tapered skinny all the way down or at least the hip area is skinnier than normal which will look too tight and unattractive...some jeans brands have more hip room than others you'll just have to find a pair that does
I'm pear-shaped wide hips can i still wear skinny jeans if so how?
You can still wear them! I'm a pear shaped size too.

Apparently, flare jeans are better for pear shaped.Try some layering of singlets and stretch them up to your waist, it usuallly works for me :)
Reply:I think it should be okay if you wear longer tops so as not to emphasise your hips. I avoid them because I have short legs and do me no justice. You have to be careful with skinny as they can be very unflattering.
Reply:I would like to advice you to avoid skinny jeans. However, if, you're determined to use them, then i would advice you to lay off from bright short tops and use dark longer tops (reaching the butt area). tank tops would be fine or even camisoles. avoid using long sleeve clothing with the skinny jeans. Footwear should also fit the clothing, try using boots or heels instead of flip flops. use accesories like long beads necklaces, bagels and avoid using belts on the skinny jeans as it would make your hip look bigger (use the belt on your top instead).

P.S. Do not wear tight top or tight skinny jeans as it will create a bump in your tummy area.

    All the best!

Try straight legs instead, they look similar to skinny legs, but are more flattering around the hips and butt. A dark wash would look more slimming too. I caught my leg on a prickly pear cacti about 1 hour ago and my leg is black %26amp; blue and painful?
You just need a little hair of the dog that bit you.

The sap from the pads from this cactus can be used in first aid similar to the aloe vera plant. Simply cut off a portion of a pad, crush it, and squeeze the juice onto a cut, burn, or bruise. The sap will soothe the wound.

You've definitely got some chewing insect problems going on, ( the holes in the leaves), and disease has set in (the brown leaves and brown, disfigured fruit). You really need to talk to your local county extension agent who can help you much better in this situation, and who will be more familiar with your climate, disease, and insect problems that are gonna be unique to your area. Or, if you want to talk to a local nursery expert about this, it would also be beneficial. Take the two photos with you, as well as clippings of the leaves, and fruit, just like you have in the picture. That will help them diagnose the problem much easier and quicker.

One last thing, look at the bark and trunk of the tree, check for any damage like where a lawn mower or string trimmer may have run into it accidentally. This can cause a multitude of problems just like the ones you have. See if the trunk has any "sap" or "weeping" areas. This could be a sign of damage and consequent insect infestation.

    Good luck.
Reply:Sorry to say this but it sounds like root rot. The roots get damaged from either soil erosion, fungus growth, or just plain age. The roots are unable to pull up sufficient nutrients from the soil and thus the tree slowly dies. If it were me, I would treat the lawn for fungus, and lay a fresh layer of potting soild mixed in with mulch and regular dirt. Trim away some of the branches, espescially the ones that are fruit bearing so the tree can heal. Good luck.

    Do pear trees have blossoms?
All fruit trees have blossom, I believe the pear is white
Reply:As already answered, they are a member of the rose family. It is probably on a quince route stock. They flower early, so can suffer from frost damage.
    Reply:Yes, white blossoms.

Reply:Yes, I have a conference pear tree and it has white blossom. Actually it is in bud now and it always blossoms before my apple tree - it puts out loads of pears but the birds tend to get most of them.
Reply:Yes, of course - most pears are white - a few are pale pink.
Reply:Yeah they do. I have one, the blossom is pinky white.

Why is a pear called a pear?

It derives from Middle English `pere `(before the year 1000), via Old English `peru` from the Latin `pira`. The botanical name of the tree is `Pyrus`.
Why is a pear called a pear?
If you called an apple a pear it would just look silly! And then you'd have to change everything elses name! No, a pear's a pear. It's just what it is!
    Reply:why is anything called anything?

Which object best represents the shape of earth. table tennis ball, a football, an egg or a pear?

A ping pong ball. The flattening of the earth from rotation is not easily visible. The earth is a smooth as the ball. If you consider the deepest depths and the highest heights of the Earth as a proportion of the diameter, the variance is less than one thousandth.
Which object best represents the shape of earth. table tennis ball, a football, an egg or a pear?
    football or egg
Reply:i guess a tble tennis ball, but it would be more accurate if you squeezed the two sides a bit, because the earth isnt perfectly spherical, its a little wider around the equator.

On pokemon diamond and pear how do you get the Electrizer?

That's easy. First buy pokemon fire red and put it in your gameboy slot. Then go in front of the valley windwroks and look in the grass. It will take a while to find but when you find an elekid it has a 30% chance of holding it.
On pokemon diamond and pear how do you get the Electrizer?
you have to give it a batterie or something like that. I got mine over gts.
    Reply:actually it isnt 30% chance.

in pearl version, there is a 5% chance of it holding it (and elekid is an uncommon pokemon) so finding it will be hard. However, if you have a friend with diamond opt to catch elekid there. its a 50% chance of finding it in that version. (youll get 10 times the ammount of electirizers!)

the opposite is true for magby, pearl has a higher chance for those magmarisers
Reply:The Electrizer is found on a wild Elekid in Diamond/Pearl. Elekid is rarely found on routes 204, 205, and Valley Windworks but only using the dongle method with FireRed. Meaning you must have FireRed inserted into your DS when you turn it on. I found mine in Valley Windworks.

On the same note, a wild Magby will be holding a Magmarizer. It is found on route 227 and Stark Mountain using the dongle method with LeafGreen.

I hope this helps! Good luck :)

I am a classic pear shape. What style clothes suit?

I am 178 cm tall, am quite fit and weigh 72kgs. I have four small children so need clothes which are practical as well a stylish.
I am a classic pear shape. What style clothes suit?
Ok- you're tall so that helps- lots of things suit you.

Avoid the bottom-heavy look. In other words, don't wear anything that is going to make the hip area look bigger. Slim-cut slacks, bootcut jeans, and pencil skirts will look good on you. DO NOT wear those pants that narrow at the bottom (they're in style this season). They just work to make your hips look bigger.

Try tunics- they usually have a slimming effect.

Also, avoid wearing dark colors on top and light colors on the bottom. On the other hand, because you're pear-shaped, you can wear horizontal stripes on top and it will even things out.

MY LEAVES WERE TURNING YELLOW AND BROWN SO I WATERED IT AND PUT FERTILIZER STICKS IN THE GROUND AROUND IT. THE NEXT DAY I HAD MOSTLY BROWN LEAVES WITH VERY FEW GREEN MIXED IN. IT DIDN'T FLOWER THIS SPRING FOR SOME REASON.ALSO THE BARK AT THE BASE IS STARTING TO SEPERATE FROM THE TRUNK. PLEASE HELP ME SAVE MY TREE!!!!
Please can someone help me save my Cleveland Pear Tree?
I know that working with some trees and plants that yellow leaves are an indicator of excessive watering. Sometimes the tree puts out more leaves than it needs and then some of them die when it realizes it made too many. As for the bark sounds like too much water. If you fertilize when it is in shock like it is could be more of a problem. Let it be and see what it does.

On loz wind waker what is a hyoi pear?and how do u get it?
A hyoi pear is a type of bait sold at the floating bait shops. It allows you to control seagulls so you can hit switches you normally wouldn't be able to get to.

Yes, you have to get them to beat the game. If I remember correctly, two of the Triforce Charts require you to control seagulls to hit crystal switches. Since there are hostile birds in the area, I suggest you buy spares unless you are a really good shot with the bow.

On loz wind waker what is a hyoi pear?and how do u get it?
you buy it from one of beedle's shops (the wierd guy that sells from his boat) it lets you take control of a seagull and if I remember right it is nessary to complete the game. I think there is one really annoying island that you have to use the gull to hit a switch to get one of the triforce charts. I know you need it to get some of the treasure charts. but they are just heart pieces and rupees mostly. those are optional to get.
Reply:a hyoi pear is a pear that lets you take control of the seagulls also you can get it from the little merchant person that roams the sea. you have to get the bait bag from him first you do not have to get it but it is fun and useful.

  • Ashes - Oh dear is it all going pear shaped for the good old aussies?

As usual they under-estimate the English. Couldn't happen to nicer people. Langer is getting abit moody isn't he?. Ponting will be swaring at the england balcony soon. Mcgrath might aswell just forget it. And Warny? What a tw*t
Ashes - Oh dear is it all going pear shaped for the good old aussies?

Cant wait for 12 o'clock. Bring it on.
Reply:It is too early for Englishman to rejoice, as Australia are giving a good fight to them as they are batting on 235 runs for the loss of 3 wickets with Ponting not out on 128 runs and Hussey not out wioth 74 runs and bothare going strong. From this point, England can onlhy hope for a draw, unless Australia dramatically collapse..
Reply:Its hardly going pear shaped for hte aussies,

sure england are slightly on top, but England don't have the bowling or batting australia do, and took 2 days to put on their impressive 551.

    This game is a draw.

Mcgrath? Warny? Warne is sitll the best spinner, yea i get the aussies wish they had Giles. And Mcgrath killed you guys in the first test.

What is Harmison going to do? you wouldn't even give him the new ball, thats as much faith england have in him - none.

The Aussies seem to play World Class Cricket when they are in the Driving seat, but they have great trouble when they are put under pressure, they just seem to fall to pieces. Reply:Bad luck for the antipodeans. ; ? )
Reply:they should drop Hayden - he is past it big time. should have been dropped after last ashes, making a hundred at Oval should not have repreived him, he wasa major reason we lost because he kept gettiing out the same way. he also failed there in 2001 i recall, after that massive Indian series. Put in Phil Jacques, he already has two tons against poms for state side this tour.

langer needs to go, he was very lucky in first innings of first test, and he out to not a hard bell in this test - put mike hussey as other opener.

and brett lee needs to be dropped, he shouldnt have been in the team for about 5 years, since he injured his elbow, after taking 42 wickets in his first 7 tests, he has sucked. now look at what stuart clark, who is 31 and been kept out by lee, has done! aussies constant winning has disguised lee poorness.

drop lee, put in macgill, the poms wont like two spinners. wrane and macgill ared ifferent enough to pick in same side.

and ill admit mcgrath looked very poor in this match, he might have to go but i would give him one more test match to improve or else. even warneys looked out of ideas and low on energy.

if engalnd win this match, they are a chance of retaining ashes, but if aussies hold on for a draw, england cant win from1-0 down with three to play, even though they only have to drawseries.

What should i do with my pear?

i picked a load of pears off my tree and i found these black spots on them and when i cut it in half some of it was brown. What is this and is it safe to eat it f i just cut the brown stuff out
What should i do with my pear?
If the spots are hard it is probablly an infection called Bitter Pit.

It only affects the skin and just under but can cause deeper rot. Shouldn't do you any harm if it is cut off. More unsightly than anything else. I think it is a Fungal infection. The wet summer will have encouraged it.

How far do I plant my 7 bradford pear trees apart from each other?

Do you want them all in one area or would you prefer them scattered throughout the yard for ornamental effect? If you are worried about cross pollination, scattered throughout the yard, the trees will still get cross-pollinated so it becomes all about what you want. If you want an orchard area, 15-20' is a good amount, but for better results, find out how wide the tree will be for ages 10-20 of the tree and plant accordingly (so that they aren't fighting each other too much for sun).
How far do I plant my 7 bradford pear trees apart from each other?
The Bradford is a beautiful tree that has dense upward growth. They are suseptible to wind, ice and snow damage due to being relatively "weak" limbed. Average life span is only about 25 years. Grown as an ornamental, they are falling out of favor because of those two reasons. Depending upon your intent, I would suggest 15-25 feet apart.

I would suggest an exercise video targeting this area. These DVD's can be picked up at Walmart or Target for $10 or less. It's also important to remember to eat healthy and keep caloric intake to a proper level (whether you want to maintain or lose weight). Stay away from fast food, processed foods and saturated fats (fried). Focus on lean proteins, vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Good luck!

    Polish Pear Cake?

For my friend's birthday, we bought her a Pear Cake from a Polish Bakery. The outside of the cake was surrounded by lady fingers, and the inside of the cake was a layered-yellow cake with pear jelly. On the top of the cake were pear halves. Does anyone have a recipe for this cake???

So then....I found a good recipe for you, but it calls for raspberries...maybe you could just replace the raspberries with pears and go from there....here's the recipe...I will list the link under "sources" below...hope some of this helps you!!!!!

    Fauchon Berry Charlotte Cake

    Florian Bellanger

    Makes one 8-inch round cake

    INGREDIENTS

    Ladyfinger Biscuit

    ? 3 egg yolks

    ? 4 tablespoons granulated sugar

    ? 2 egg whites

    ? ? cup all-purpose flour

    ? 1 baking sheet tray

    ? 1 cake ring - 8 inches diameter, 1 ? inches high

    Raspberry Syrup

    ? 1 cup water

    ? ? cup granulated sugar

    ? ? cup raspberry puree

    Italian Meringue

    ? 3 tablespoons egg whites

    ? 1/3 cup granulated sugar

    ? 1 ? teaspoons water

    Raspberry Mousse

    ? 3 gelatin sheets

    ? ? cup raspberry puree

    ? 2 teaspoons lemon juice

? ? cup heavy cream, whipped to soft peaks

    DIRECTIONS

    Preheat oven to 350° F.

In a mixing bowl, whisk egg yolks and ? of the granulated sugar, until the mixture is a light yellow color. Set aside.

In an electric mixer, whisk egg whites and the remaining ? of the granulated sugar, until stiff peaks form. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold the egg yolks/sugar mixture into the egg whites until combined. Then gently fold in all-purpose flour and stir until combined.

Spread this mixture on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (about ?-inch thick) and bake in 350° F oven for about 12 minutes. After baking, allow the ladyfinger biscuit to cool on a wire rack, and then carefully remove the biscuit from the baking sheet.

In a saucepan, bring the water and sugar to a simmer. Remove from heat and whisk in the raspberry puree. Allow to cool.

Place the cake ring on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Cut a 1 ?-wide strip lengthwise (equal to the height of the cake ring) and place it around the inside of the ring. Cut out a 7-inch round. When the raspberry syrup is at room temperature, brush the round ladyfinger biscuit with the syrup and place it on the bottom of the ring. Keep the cake ring with the ladyfingers in the refrigerator until you are ready to assemble the cake.

Raspberry Mousse (made with Italian Meringue)

In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Using a small saucepan and a candy thermometer, boil the sugar and water until the mixture reaches 250° F. Remove from heat, then while whisking continuously, slowly add the mixture to the whipped egg whites. Continue to whisk until the mixture has cooled down to room temperature. Set aside at room temperature. (Note: You can make this meringue by hand since the quantity is so small.)

Soak the gelatin in cold water for about 3 minutes. Drain and squeeze out the water from the gelatin. In a saucepan, lightly warm raspberry puree and lemon juice, then whisk in the gelatin until combined. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool until it reaches room temperature. Gently fold in the whipped cream, stir until combined; then fold in the Italian meringue and stir until combined.

    Assembling the Charlotte Cake

    1 cup fresh raspberries

    Fresh seasonal berries for garnish

Remove the cake ring with the ladyfingers from the refrigerator. Fill half of this ring with raspberry mousse and then cover the mousse with 1 cup of fresh raspberries spread evenly. Fill up the ring with the remaining mousse, refrigerate the cake for 2 hours.

Transfer the cake ring to a serving plate. Carefully remove the cake ring before decorating the cake with assorted seasonal fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or blackberries).

One for the brits - why do we say 'gone pear shaped', as opposed to 'gone lightbulb shaped'?

it came from flying where someone tried to do a perfect circle and it went wrong going "pear shaped" and not circular, hence its all gone pear shaped..hope this helps
One for the brits - why do we say 'gone pear shaped', as opposed to 'gone lightbulb shaped'?
"It went pear-shaped" is used, in common English jargon, to refer to a project that resulted in failure. It suggests that the fiasco was beyond the control of any specific individual. The expression it is not in any way regarded as offensive or vulgar.

Now for the etymology: There are several versions and it's a case of choosing the one which seems to you the most likely.

Some sources insist that its origins lie in ballooning, and that a pear suggests the shape of a collapsed balloon. Others believe that 'pear-shaped' is rooted in aircraft terminology. The story goes that certain types of aircraft engine casings might go 'pear-shaped' in the event of failure. There is a sidebar theory that the expression relates to pilot efforts to attempt perfectly circular loops in the air. Often, their circles would become pear-shaped; hence the connection to failure.

Math experts have yet another opinion. Quoting from an English website : Pear-shaped refers to a so-called "normal" distribution where the extremities of the distribution have become enlarged. In such a situation, improbable events would becomer much more probable. This at the moment (according to the site) is the preferred origin for "It's all gone pear-shaped".

Can my 8th month old baby have pear or apple juice? If so how much do i dilute it?

They can have it, just dilute it so its not full strength and watch for any allergy symptoms. Don't try them on the same day.
Can my 8th month old baby have pear or apple juice? If so how much do i dilute it?
you can but, just becareful, I have been giving my baby girl half apple juice half water since she was 6 months old (after the ok from her doctor) But just make sure you dont give your baby to much apple juice it can give him/her diaherria.
Reply:Half water (2oz) %26amp; half juice(2oz) to equal a total of 4oz. Make sure that if you give your baby apple juice wait at least 2 days before giving her a new flavor of juice, just as you would with baby food.
Reply:It should be okay, especially if you have given your baby apples or pears (baby food)...you definitely should dilute it at least half water if not more! Even when your child is older (like 2-4 years), you should dilute the juice...if you start now, they will never know the difference! Best of luck!
    Reply:half and half
Reply:You should have started giving your baby juice since 4 months diluted half water and half juice. Your babies doctor should have told you this since then. Take your baby to his/her well child check-up.
Reply:Yes. It should be half juice, half water.
    Reply:Yes.... Half and half

I need fresh prickly pear cactus pads. Who has them or can ship them to me in MN?

I need these fresh pads for medicinal purposes. I soak the cut up pads after the spines are removed in water to get the jelly/slime like insides out. I used these when I was in Jamaica, but cannot bring foriegn plants into the U.S. and I cant find them here in Minnesota either. I see they are used in Mexico and are called "Nopales".

If you know where you can get these FRESH prickly pear cactus pads, kindly let me know where. Perhaps someone in the southwest US has a ton of them in their area and would be willing to pick and ship them to me for a price.

Again I am looking for ANY help that I can get. These really help me with my illness and am having nothing but trouble trying to find them. Thanks for you assistance!
