What's the best style of wedding dress for a pear-shape?

Obviously I want to minimize my hips and thighs, but at the same time I don't want to over-compensate by wearing something really low- cut at the chest.
What's the best style of wedding dress for a pear-shape?
OK, I did a lot of research as I am semi Pear Shaped and this is what I came up with.

Tip's for Pear Shaped Brides:

Pear Shape

You are narrow on top and heavy below. With this shape, the goal should be to find a dress that brings balance to the top half and bottom half.

Do

Silhouette: A-line, Ball Gown

Neckline: Strapless, V-Neck, Off-the-Shoulder, Scoop

A-line skirt coupled with a strapless neckline looks great. Also consider a Off-the-Should or scoop with an A-line. You'll find that these styles can draw the attention to your upper half and bring balance.

Don't

Silhouette: Sheath, Mermaid, Empire

Neckline: V-Neck

Avoid styles that countour to the shape of your body such as Sheath and Mermaid. V-neck tends to draw the attention towards your chest and hips.

I hope this helps! Good Luck and feel free to email me if you need any advice. I just went through planning a wedding at the Space Needle in Seattle on 09.22.07 so my experience is still really fresh and current. I'm not sure where you are located but if you are close buy I could also help you out with some vendors as well.

Good Luck again!
Reply:Something with a very full skirt with lots of petticoats. It will look awesome -- it will draw attention to your tiny waist. You'll look like a renaissance princess. (Think along the lines of Princess Diana's gown). I'd also look at pictures of Mae West or Marilyn Monroe -- gowns that were flattering on their shapes would also look fabulous on your body type.

The style of dress that would look really bad = the dress Carolyn Bessette Kennedy wore.
Reply:You want something to give you a long silhouette, so go with a dress that has straps or sleeves.

Best thing is to chose a dress with a flowing material, like soft bridal satin - in a very flattering basque waist (sometimes called a dropped waist) - because the material just glides down...

Hard to describe, you have to get out there and shop!
Reply:A ball-gown style dress will cover up your lower half. The top part comes in different style, some are strapless, some halter, etc. This leaves alot of options open for you to choose what you want to look like in the dress.

Ball gown style dresses are most like the pictured "fairy tale" wedding type dress.

Reply:There are a lot of suitable styles. Get something with a very fitted bodice that will 1) show off your hourglass curves in the waist and 2) give you extra in the chest if you need it. For the bottom, A-line, straight, poofy- youll just have to try on different ones and see how they look on you. Not to shoot down the first posters idea, but those kinds of dress with the extra coat and lace only emphasize wide areas of anyones body, and only seem to add extra weight. So, tight bodice, stand tall, youll look gorgeous!
Reply:Do something that is fitted at the top and then flows out at the hips (A-line) That way the dress takes on the fullness, not your hips.
Reply:Off the shoulder, with drapey things on the upper arms. How is that for technical??? haha
Reply:I feel kinda bad for sharing another Y!A's dress idea, but damn it's so gorgeous I hope she doesn't mind!!

It would be incredibly flattering to a pear shaped figure as it would balance you out at the shoulders.

Reply:Make the top half of your dress interesting. It doesn't have to be low cut for that. Also I am more of an hourglass than pear but I think that my least attractive body area is my hips, butt, and thighs so I went with a dress that had a very big skirt, not poofy, satin with lots of volume to "hide" my problem areas avoid a big bow on yur butt because it is then a target for everyone's eyes. Those gowns with the "scrunched" skirts would also be great camafloge. Look at these styles I think would work:
Reply:Strapless but straight across, and an a-line style..not too frilly and poofy...see alfredangelo.com, brides.com, moncheribridals.com, verawang.com, dessy.com, jessicamcclintock.com, wholesaleweddinggowns.com, netbride.com, rinadimontella.com
