I'm in Massachusetts.
I have a pear tree in my back yard. When is the best time to pick them?
Pears become ripe after the first frost of the season. Pears that have fallen to the ground are truly ripe and should be used first or the Yellow Jackets will have a feast on them.
Reply:If you are starving for a pear from you tree, you could pick it and put it in a paper bag and set it on the counter in the kitchen. If you are lucky it might ripen in a day or two. Good Luck and enjoy early Report It
Reply:Hey! Thanks for the additional advice. I think I'll try that this weekend. Report It

Reply:After the first frost of the year is the said time to pick them. You will want to feel them for it will seem the skin gets soft and the core is still hard.Hope I have helped you.
Reply:just as they turn sl yellow on one side. Then they will continue to ripen.Dont let them get to yellow or they will fall off the tree and get bruised.
