About 10 limbs came out from the base of the main tree and the original tree part that we planted died. These limbs or whatever they are look healthy. Can we tale them off and replant them to grow more trees?
Why do all these shoots come from the base of my bradford pear trees and what do i do with them?
suckers, as it sounds like what you have, are notorious for (as the name says) sucking nutrients out of the main tree, you may be able to grow one, but in the future try not to allow suckers to pop up at the base, especially on fruit trees.
Reply:no they are what is know as the root stock, allthought the grafted part died the root stock is still alive,if you want to plant then, you would then need to obtain some cuttings from onther healthy tree to graft to the root stock,if you dont know how to do this i sugest you cut the shoots off and poison so they stop growing and get yourself a knew tree,as with all apples, pear, plumbs even roses, they are all grafted onto a root stock, for a more vigours grouth, but the root stock might not produce fruit,or be the same, hope this answers your problem, happy gardening
