ees growth. this year i didnt get a lot of pears after i started feeding the tree with dead grass. I usually get them but is it because of the grass or just a bad year
After you cut the grass with a lawn mower and you feed a pear tree with the dead grass does that affect the tr
The feeder roots of most trees, including fruit trees are located at what is call the drip line. This is at the furthest extent of the canopy or leaves of the tree. If you are placing the clippings around the base of the tree, all you are doing is keeping the weeds from around the base. In order for the plant to obtain any nutrients from the clippings, they need to be place in a 2 to 3 foot band at the outer limits of the branches.
Reply:Chances are it is a bad year. The one thing to watch though, make sure you have not put weed killer on the grass then put the clippings under the tree, the weed killer could leach out to the tree and cause a set back.
Reply:Use well prepared Compost instead .It May have stopped the surface moisture from the earth being absorbed by the top roots.
Reply:Probably just a bad year. We here in NE Ohio had a severe cold snap after some really warm weather in April. We use grass clippings as a mulch on everything. Our lawn hasn't had any chemicals applied to it for over 25 years, however.
