Has anyone ever ate cactus pads or the prickly pear fruit that grow on them?

If so what state are you in? My cat likes the pads and I like the fruit, lots of the old people here in New Mexico used to make dishes out of cactus.

I live in Utah and yes while living in southern Utah I was in contact with a tribe of Ute Indians and they taught me many ways to use the cactus's that grew wild there. They would burn the spines off and then use them.
Reply:We enjoy the fruit. As a child we ate it every day in season. You must be careful to not consume too many at a time - you get blocked downstairs and it is a rather painful experience.

I stay in South Africa.
Reply:Are we talking Nopali's? They are awesome grilled but Im not found of the fruit, btw im in Texas
Reply:my sister has, she lived in arizona at the time, she was not a fan of them though
