Big green hard pear like thing on rose bush? not a rose hip?

k it seems to be a rose bush, and near the bottom before most leaves and flowers seem to grow there are growths on the stem that look like little mis shaped pears. can anyone tell me what this is called and if it has any uses. im sure its not a rose hip cause it does not form from a flower

What you describe sounds like CROWN GALL.



This is a result of infection or insect infestation.



It can decrease the flow of nutrients, the plant will slowly decline, and then die.



Remove the infected rosebush. It is best NOT to plant another rosebush in the same location. RPV (Repeat Planting Virus) can be a serious threat.
