When to prune austrian pine, cleveland select pear & red maple trees?

In the winter. There will be less wound trouble, since the sap runs slower, and insects aren't around.

Dead branches can be cut off at any time.

  • What is a good white wine with pear notes?

A Canadian Ice wine would be nice if you want sweet. Also a vouvray from France or a German Liebfraumilch are are great dessert pairing wines that go well with fruit and salad. For something a little drier try a pinot grigio from Italy or USA. A great lite wine that pairs well with salad, soups, chicken and fish. These are all good wines that have bold apple and pear notes. You can get any of them for around 12 buck for a decent bottle, except the ice wine it'll cost double but is it ever good. Happy uncorking!

Try Evoloution Lucky 9. It is a white that has 9 different grape varietals. Or try the Qupe Bien Nacido, it is a chardonnay and viognier blend.
Reply:Here are 5 suggestions I have for you from 4 different wine regions around the world:

    1. Goundrey Wines 2003 Reserve Selection Chardonnay, Australia.

    2. Gehringer Brothers Estate Winery 2004 Classic Riesling, British Columbia, Canada

    3. Mission Hill Family Estate Winery 2004 Pinot Gris Reserve, British Columbia, Canada

    4. Badet, Clement %26amp; Cie 2004 Les Jamelles Viognier, France

    5. Lingenfelder Estate 2004 "Hare Label" Gewurztraminer, Germany.

The British Columbia wines are not always easy to come by, unless you live there but if you can, try for #3 as Mission Hill rarely makes a bad wine. All of these wines are reasonably priced, as in under $15 Canadian.

    Hope that helps. Happy drinking.

Six pears and three apples cost $3.90. Two pears and five apples cost $3.30. How much does one pear cost?

Hint: You have two unknowns (variables), so you need two equations. Write one equation for each situation and solve the system of equations.

Let p = the cost of one pear

Let a = the cost of one apple

    a. Write a system of equations that can be used to determine the cost of pears and apples.

    b. Determine the cost of one pear and one apple. Use mathematics to explain how you determined your answer.
Six pears and three apples cost $3.90. Two pears and five apples cost $3.30. How much does one pear cost?
    6p + 3a = 3.90

    2p + 5a = 3.30

Divide the first equation by 3:

    2p + a = 1.30

    Restate:

    a = 1.30 - 2p

Substitute 1.30 - 2p for a in the second equation:

    2p + 5(1.30-2p) = 3.30

    2p + 6.50 - 10p = 3.30

    -8p = -3.20

    p = .40

Substitute .40 for p in either original equation:

    6(.40) + 3a = 3.90

    2.40 + 3a = 3.90

    3a = 1.50

    a = .50

    One pear costs $0.40

    One apple costs $0.50
    Reply:a)

    8p + 8a = 7.20 (that's the two costs added together.)

    ----------- -------

16 16 (to get rid of the multiples.)

    p + a = .45

    ---------------

2 (to find the cost of one... assuming they cost the same.)

one apple costs .225 cents (about 23 cents.)

    b) one pear costs about 23 cents. same with one apple. I determined the answer by combining the variables and end results. then I did the linear equation to find the values of each variable, assuming the cost of the pears and apples were the same.

    hope i helped =]]
    Reply:a. 6p+3a=3.90

    2p+5a=3.30

    b. First equation

    take 6p from each side

    3a=3.90-6p

    divide by 3

    a=1.30-2p

substitute a in the next equation

    2p+5(1.30-2p)=3.30

    simplify

    2p+6.50-10p=3.30

    -8p+6.50=3.30

    -8p=-3.2

since both are negative they can both change

    8p=3.20

    divide by 8

    p=.40

    If p=.40 and a= 1.30-2p

    a=1.30-.80

    a=.50

    2p + 5a = 3.30

    multiply 2p + 5a = 3.30 by -3.....you get -6p - 15a = -9.90

    combine the two equations (6p + 3a = 3.90) and (-6p - 15a = -9.90)....you get -12a = -6

    solve for a

    you get a = 0.50

    substitute 0.50 into 2p + 5a = 3.30

    2p + 5(0.50) = 3.30

    2p + 2.5 =3.30

    2p = 0.80

    p = $0.40

I got 40 cents. Now finish you're homework kid.
Reply:A Six pears and three apples cost $3.90

B So, dividing by three, two pears and an apple cost $1.30

C But, two pears and five apples cost $3.30

D The difference between B and C is four apples and $2

E So an apple costs 50c

F So, from B, if two pears and a 50c apple costs $1.30, then two pears cost 80c

    G So, a pear costs 40c

Who needs algebra to solve the equation?
Reply:Too much. You should wait until they are in season locally.
    Reply:omg, what grade r u in?

Oh and I have no idea.... hehe
    Reply:Okay, here we go.

Your sytem of equations would be

    6p + 3a = 3.90

    2p + 5a = 3.30

6 because thats the number of pears in the first sentence.

3 because thats the number of apples in the first sentence.

2 because thats the number of pears in the second sentence.

5 because thats the number of apples in the second sentence.

    (5)6p + 3a = 3.90

    (-3)2p + 5a = 3.30

    30p + 15a = 19.50

    -6p -15a = - 9.90

times 5 to the first line and -3 to the second so that the amount of apples equal each other (on both lines) and they cancel each other out.

    Now you're left with

    30p = 19.50

    -6p = -9.90

Subtract 6 from thirty and 9.90 from 19.50

    24p = 960

Divited 960 by 24 and you get 40 %26lt;--- thats how much the pears cost (for one)

Next do the same for the apples (this time making the pears equal each other out to cancel themselves.)

    6p + 3a = 3.90

    (-3)2p + 5a = 3.30

times the bottom equation ONLY by -3

    6p + 3a = 3.90

    -6p - 15a = -9.90

    Cancel out the p's (pears)

    3a = 3.90

    -15a = -9.90

    Add together

    -12a = -600

    Divide -600 by -12

    a = 50

Which means 1 pear costs 40 cents and 1 apple costs 50.

    Check:

Replace the variables (p, a) with the answers (40 for pears, 50 for apples) and add them up.

    6(40) + 3(50) = 3.90

    2(40)+5(50) = 3.30

    2.40 + 1.50 = 3.90

    .80 + 2.50 = 3.30

    3.90 = 3.90

    3.30 = 3.30

Whew that was long :D Hope it helps.

Best time of the year to be pruning a pear tree?

    no harm to tree
Best time of the year to be pruning a pear tree?
The absolute best time of the year to prune a pear tree, from the perspective of the health of the tree, is in the dead of winter on the coldest day of the year. There will be no leaves, so you can see the branching structure clearly. There are no insects active to infest your tree through the pruning wounds. There are no diseases active to infest through the wounds. And your tree will never heal as fast as it will in spring when it first comes out of dormancy. If, by chance, you can not or do not want to prune in the dead of winter, then prune while the tree is dormant but before it breaks buds in spring. January through March, depending upon where you live, would be the ideal months.

Diseased, dead or broken branches can be pruned at anytime of the year.

    Pruning Pear Trees:

Like other plants, pruning established trees is healthy for them. It results in a bigger crop. Prune pear trees annually in the early spring, before the new year's growth begins.

First, remove dead or unhealthy branches and limbs. Top off the main trunk and any suckers at a height that you can reach the fruit with a ladder. Also prune in areas where growth is very bushy. This will increase sunlight and air penetration, to help the overall health and growth of the tree. You can also prune branches to maintain a shapely looking tree.

What is the general costs of having a large Pear tree removed? One over 30ft? Live in state of Alabama.?

No need to remove stump/grinding, etc. Just take the tree down, haul away.
What is the general costs of having a large Pear tree removed? One over 30ft? Live in state of Alabama.?
It depends on the location of the tree. Is it close to the house? Near a playground? Over a sidewalk? Etc.

If the tree is located away from obstacles and can be felled from the ground the price will be much cheaper.

If the tree needs to be climbed and removed piece by piece the price goes up quickly.

Companies charge by the hour, anywhere ranging from $50-$80 per person depending on local factors. They will typically charge drive time to the job also.

For a list of local certified arborists go to: www.isa-arbor.com and click on "find an arborist".

Reply:you lucky dog, you have a 30 foot pear tree!! wow , how much does that produce??
Reply:probably about $400 dollars that would be the cost in Indiana
Reply:Not sure. But I know there's something called a phone, and they have this big book called the 'Yellow Pages' - I think you can call and get estimates from tree removal or landscaping companies. Maybe that would work?
Reply:There are lots of ways to get rid of an unwanted tree. Thirty feet is NOT a large tree, but depending upon whether it is out in the open or up close to a house would make a huge difference.

I would expect that in AL one should NOT have a big problem finding someone with a chain saw and a pickup truck which would be the cheapest way. However, if there is danger from overhead power lines, or near a building or other structure which you are concerned about, then perhaps you should look in the phone book under Tree Surgeons or Arborist.

Warning: each year many people are injured using chain saws. They are very effective tools, but like most power tools, they require a great deal of care and respect!

I need your help does high waist dress would look good on a pear shape body?
it depends how pear-shaped you are. are you ample on the bottom, or just larger than you are on top? pear-shaped bodies generally look good in dresses that accentuate the waist and above. however, if you think you're very bottom-heavy, probably not.

but just go to a store w/ high-waisted skirts, grab one and a white blouse, lock yourself in a fitting room, and see how you like it.
Reply:yeah because white makes you look larger and black makes you look thinner, so the white on top will make your bust larger so it is not out or proportion with your hips, whilst the black makes your hips look smaller (because it is a slimming colour) you can't lose with this one :). Reply:Absolutely assuming I know what a pear-shaped body is. Is it like coca-cola bottle or an hour-glass with a narrow top? If so yes. The high waist accentuates your hips area. Now is the dress is form-fitting or with a full skirt? Form-fitting is best with your shape.

How can you tell if a pear is ripe enough to eat?

    Check the Neck for Ripeness!

Pears are a unique fruit that ripen best off the tree (without getting technical, pears that ripen on the tree will be gritty), they are meant to be ripened after purchase. The other reason you might rarely find ripe pears in the store is that ripe pears are fragile, so it's better to have them ripen at your home rather than in the store.

Place hard pears in a paper bag or a covered fruit bowl, leave at room temperature.

Every day, "Check the Neck for Ripeness"?. To do this, apply gentle pressure to the stem end of the pear with your thumb. When it yields to the pressure, it's ready to eat (this process usually takes a few days).

Enjoy your ripe, juicy pears now, or store them in the fridge until you're ready to use them. The fridge will slow down the ripening process, but won't stop it. Ready to eat pears will stay fresh in the fridge for between 3-5 days.
How can you tell if a pear is ripe enough to eat?
A pear is ripe enough to eat if you can push the flesh in slightly and it has a little give.
Reply:Also ripe pears will give off more aroma than unripe pears. This is the same with most fruit. Smell your fruit (does that sound bad?) if it doesn't smell like the ripe fruit, it isn't ready to eat. Your nose knows.
Reply:Push lightly at the top of the pear... if its somewhat soft.. not hard.. but notmushy.... then its perfectly ripe... if its mushy.. its over ripe

Reply:Take the tree down, hire a stump grinder, have them eat the roots too, then replant the yard.
Reply:a tree that is a true pain---the first big blow you get it will be a leaner. I would cut them down and buy some Pretty hardy but messy magnolias. I never saw one blown down after a hurricane. A magnolia grows fast and blooms within about 4 years. I started many from cuttings from a neighbors tree that hung in our yard in NC.
Reply:Remove the trees, although Bradford pear look good a few weeks out of the year (when they are in bloom) they are a weak tree and the roots are very shallow. You need to plant a stronger tree contact you city park and rec, forestry or a botanic gardens and see what type of tree they recommend for your location.

    Can i re-plant a pear tree(its about 8-9ft tall)will the roots be too big?

If you'd like to hedge your bets a bit, you can do some root pruning and move the tree next spring. To root prune, go just

barely inside the dripline of the tree and cut straight down with a sharp drain or tiling spade all around the tree. Next spring, you'll

have to dig it all up and lift ball properly, using straps or a tree spade -- you can't just knock most of the soil off and grab the trunk and pull. Or you can hire a tree spade.

Personally, I wouldn't move a tree of this size unless it had been in the ground less than 18 months and I could hire several knowledgeable laborers to help, or a service with a tree spade.
    Can i re-plant a pear tree(its about 8-9ft tall)will the roots be too big?
Yes, you can replant it, but you should wait until it drops all its leaves. Once that happens it's in dormancy, and instead of sending its energy to the leaves, it will send more energy to the roots, allowing them to re-establish during the fall and winter. Make sure you dig your hole large enough, for starters. Look here for complete instructions:

    Good luck!
Reply:Root spread does not relate to branch spread!

Better question is how long tis been planted. If only a few years you should be OK, with care and aftercare. If a long time, then it will be harder and less likely to flourish.

Might just be easier to get a new one?
Reply:The roots generally reach out as far as the branches do. That will give you an idea of how big the root ball is. And you should get about half to 3 quarters of the root length and a lot of tlc Planting now is the best. You should do some major pruning too.
Reply:I have replanted several trees in my garden. Some were successful and some were not.A forester told me that when doing this try to take as much soil that the tree originally growing in to the new site .Apple trees I shifted did not produce apples for 2yrs but the main thing is they did not die.A lot depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline. Also water them to let them get a chance to get established.Do not cut the roots if you can help it and put in a supporting post to give additional support.Hope its a success for you.

Is it true that it's not advisable to buy pear shaped diamonds since it is shaped like tears = sorrow?

i heard an old wives tale saying that since this particular cut of diamond is shaped like a teardrop it has brought a lot of women so much sorrow and tears that one shouldn't buy this type of diamond. is there any truth to this?

Reply:Sounds great! I worked in a Spanish restaurant for 8 years--you can really add anything you like--However, Brandy is the traditional liquor additive, but I'm not sure if there is a pear flavor :). I make a tropical white sangria with white wine then for color i add mango slices, strawberries, and kiwi, and instead of 7-up or soda i add a sweet sparkling spumante to sweeten it--plus it gives it an extra kick! If you want more flavor try adding a couple of shots of Midori melon liquor, peach or apricot brandy,or flavored schnapps, and for red sangria try Chambord, or cherry brandy. Always garnish your glasses with fresh fruit--your guests will love it! Can you tell Ive done this bfore?! lol Enjoy!
Reply:If you're going to do this, make sure that you let people know that it's not really sangria, but it's a mixed drink that contains hard liquor. Some people are really particular about drinking vodka.

Reply:I don't know what zone you live in but pears grow from zones 2 to 9, and are commonly grown in England. Try some english sites such as BBC Gardening to see what they are growing in zones similar to your own. Botanical name from the common eating pear is Pyrus communis.

Also check with your local nursery they may be able to order you the most successful variety for you area, or tell you it is impossible. If you find a suitable variety you should be able to get it by mail order if not available locally. Good hunting.

  • Fashion Tips for Pear Shaped Plus Sizes?

I'm asking this question for both my mother and myself!

My brother is getting married in May and my mother and I are both very bottom heavy pear shapes. I'm about a size 22/24 on the bottom and she is a 18/20 on the bottom.

My mother wants to wear and skirt and jacket combo but is unsure of what styles to go for to compliment her shape.

I will be 7 months pregnant and have NO idea what to wear to flatter my shape.

I know pear shapes should stick with V-neck lines and detailed necklines to balance our shoulders and draw the eye upwards; but are there any other things we should think about?

How long should my mum's jacket be?

    Thanks in advance!
Fashion Tips for Pear Shaped Plus Sizes?
Here's the skinny on pear shaped. Oh, and when it comes to jackets for your mum, the emphasis on the smaller waist is more important that length and you might emphasize it with a lovely brooch or scarf or both.

Pear shaped women should choose both pants and skirts that feature flat fronts or are softly pleated as these kind of garments place emphasis on waist areas that are well defined and this is what you want. Hipster trousers are an excellent choice as these types of pants will do away with the problem of a gaping waist that is very common to women who have the pear shape. The most flattering styles for pear shaped women are A-line skirts and A-line wraps as these type of clothing call attention to a small waist while also slimming the hip area. Skirts that are short or tight are not recommended for pear shaped women as they will bring focus to the top portion of the thighs and will also divert attention to the area you do not want, which is below the waist.

Pear shaped women should avoid pants or skirts that are light in color and instead stick with the color black, as well as darker shades of browns and blues that will help to adequately absorb the light. Make an effort to accentuate the top half of your body by wearing tops that draw the eye upward such as fitted garments that have nice colors and patterns. As well choose tops with beautiful and very becoming necklines. Do not opt for baggy tops that fall well below the waist and hips but choose tops that at the top parts of the hip area so the waist will stand out.

Pear shaped women can do a lot with accessories. They should choose both scarves and jewellery that keep the attention away from their buttocks, hips and thighs and bring the attention upward. Two famous pear shaped women are English actress Kate Winslet and Emma Bunton (better known as Baby Spice, the youngest member of the band the Spice Girls).

Why is pear juice the "base" of almost every fruit juice??

I'm looking at the ingredients for a orange tangerine drink and it has more pear juice than orange or tangerine. I've seen that in so many different juices. Why??
Why is pear juice the "base" of almost every fruit juice??
because its not a really strong flavor but is very sweet and other fruits will override its pear flavor. personally i love pears in their own juice, very subtle flavor and they are best served alone or with cheese
Reply:i've usually notice apple juice is the base of everything.

but pear juice is probably easier to digest, at least in babies.
Reply:in south africa, most of the juice bases were white grape or apple

i love pear juice.. i bet yr juice tastes better than mine

i think pear juice is used to cut the acidity in the juice and as a preservative
Reply:Because it's naturally sweet and doesn't have much of a specific flavor on its own, so it lends itself well to taking on other flavors that it's mixed with.
Reply:Is it? I have only noticed apple juice being the main flavor juice.
Reply:i tihnk pear gives it the flavor. but im not sure :-/

I need a recipe for a PEAR TART?

this one has an almond filling its really good!!!!

    Pears

    4 cups water

    1 1/4 cups sugar

1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

3 medium-size firm but ripe Bosc pears, peeled (each about 7 ounces)

    Crust

    1/2 cup powdered sugar

    1/4 cup blanched slivered almonds

    1/4 teaspoon salt

9 tablespoons (1 stick plus 1 tablespoon) unsalted butter, room temperature

    1 large egg yolk

1 1/4 cups all purpose flour

    Almond Filling

    2/3 cup blanched slivered almonds

    1 tablespoon all purpose flour

    7 tablespoons sugar

6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature

    1 large egg

    Powdered sugar (optional)

    For pears:

Bring 4 cups water, sugar, and lemon juice to boil in large saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Add pears. Reduce heat to medium and simmer until pears are very tender, turning occasionally, about 20 minutes. Cool pears in syrup. (Can be made 2 days ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)

    For crust:

Blend powdered sugar, almonds, and salt in processor until nuts are finely ground. Add butter and blend until smooth, scraping down sides of bowl occasionally. Mix in egg yolk. Add flour. Using on/off turns, blend until dough comes together in clumps. Gather dough into ball; flatten into disk. Wrap in plastic and chill at least 3 hours. (Can be made 2 days ahead. Keep refrigerated.)

    For almond filling:

Finely grind almonds and flour in processor. Mix in 7 tablespoons sugar, then butter, blending until smooth. Mix in egg. Transfer filling to medium bowl. Cover and chill at least 3 hours. (Can be made 2 days ahead. Keep chilled.)

Position rack in center of oven and preheat to 375°F. Roll out chilled dough on floured sheet of parchment paper to 12-inch round, lifting and turning dough occasionally to free from paper. Using paper as aid, turn dough into 9-inch-diameter tart pan with removable bottom; peel off paper. Seal any cracks in dough. Trim overhang to 1/2 inch. Fold overhang in, making double-thick sides. Pierce crust all over with fork. Freeze crust 10 minutes.

Line crust with buttered foil, buttered side down, then fill with dried beans or pie weights. Bake crust until sides are set, about 20 minutes. Remove foil and beans. Bake crust until sides are golden and bottom is set, pressing with back of fork if crust bubbles, about 10 minutes longer. Cool crust in pan on rack. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F.

Spread almond filling evenly in crust. Stem pears and cut each in half lengthwise; scoop out cores. Cut each half crosswise into thin slices. Gently press each pear half to fan slices but keep slices tightly overlapped. Slide spatula under pears and arrange atop filling like spokes of wheel with narrow ends in center.

Bake tart until golden and tester inserted into center of filling comes out clean, about 55 minutes. Cool tart in pan on rack. Push pan bottom up, releasing tart from pan. (Can be made 8 hours ahead. Let stand at room temperature.) Cut tart into wedges; sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired, and serve.

    Makes 8 servings.

    Pear Tart Recipe

    1 1/4 cups All-purpose flour

    1/8 teaspoon Salt

    Sugar

    1/2 cup Unsalted butter

    1 Egg yolk

2 1/2 tablespoons Ice water (approximately)

    8 Ripe pears (Comice/Anjou)

    (about 3 pounds)

    1 teaspoon Ground ginger

    1/3 cup Apricot preserves

    Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

    To make the pastry:

Combine the flour with the salt and 2 tablespoons of sugar in a large bowl. Cut in the butter with a knife. Blend with a pastry blender until the flour has the texture of coarse crumbs. Combine the egg yolk with the ice water and work into the flour mixture to form a soft dough. Add more water if necessary. Knead briefly and press the dough over the bottom and sides of a buttered loose bottomed 10-inch quiche pan. Trim the edges. Line the pastry with aluminum foil and weight with rice or beans. Bake 10 minutes.

Remove foil and rice or beans; bake until the pastry is golden, 5 to 10 minutes. Cool on a rack.

    To make the caramel:

Combine 1/3 cup of sugar with 2 tablespoons water in a medium skillet. Heat to boiling and boil until the mixture turns a light caramel color. Carefully, but quickly, brush the caramel over the bottom and sides of the pastry shell.

    To make filling:

Peel 6 of the pears, cut in half, and remove the cores. Cut each half into 4 slices. Place the pears in a large heavy skillet or saucepan. combine 2/3 cup sugar, the ginger, and 1 cup water and pour over the pears. Heat to boiling; reduce the heat. Simmer, covered, until pears are soft but not mushy, 6-8 minutes, depending on ripeness of pears. Cool.

Drain the pears, reserving the liquid. Arrange the pears over the bottom of the pastry shell. Peel the remaining pears, cut into quarters, and remove the cores. Cut each quarter into thin slices. Arrange symmetrically over the cooked pears.

Combine the apricot preserves with 4 tablespoons of the pear liquid in a small saucepan. Heat to boiling; strain. Brush the tart with half the apricot mixture. Bake 30 minutes. Remove from oven and brush with the remaining apricot mixture. Serve slightly warmed with whipped cream if desired.

    Prep Time: 40 minutes

    Inactive Prep Time: 12 hours

    Cook Time: 1 hour

    Yield: 6 servings

    1 lemon

    1 orange

1 bottle red wine (recommended: Shiraz/Syrah or Zinfandel)

    8 cups water

    1/2 cup honey

1 (1-inch) piece fresh ginger, sliced

    1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns

    1/2 teaspoon cloves

    4 cardamom seeds

    2 star anise

    1 bay leaf

    6 Bartlett pears, peeled

Creamy Pistachio Nut Filling, recipe follows

Special equipment: a wide saucepot, parchment paper, a parisienne scoop/small melon baller, a piping bag

Juice the lemon and orange, reserving the juiced citrus halves. Put the juice, citrus halves, wine, water, honey, ginger, black peppercorns, cloves, cardamom, star anise and bay leaf in a wide saucepot. Gently place the pears into the liquid. Make a circle of parchment paper that is 1/2-inch larger than the pot and cover surface completely with the parchment paper (see Cook's Note*). Make sure the pears are fully submerged but not touching the bottom of the pot. Bring the poaching liquid and pears to a boil, then reduce the heat to just below a simmer.

Cook the pears until fork tender. Test for doneness by inserting a sharp knife in the base; there should be little resistance when fully cooked. Gently transfer pears to a glass or ceramic bowl. Pour enough poaching liquid over pears just to cover. Cover and refrigerate for several hours, preferably overnight; the longer the pears soak, the darker they will become.

Strain remaining poaching liquid and return to saucepan. Cook over high heat until a syrupy consistency is achieved or the syrup coats the back of a spoon. Chill until the pears are served.

Use a parisienne scoop to remove each pear's core, hollowing out a 1-inch wide cavity that starts at the base and extends 3/4 of the way up the pear. Transfer the Creamy Pistachio Nut Filling to a piping bag without a tip. Gently fill the pear cavity until it slightly overflows. (The overflow will help to provide a sticky surface to stand the pear up on.) Place the pear, base side down, in a bowl and surround with 1-ounce of the syrup. Serve.

Cook's Note: *Make sure the poaching liquid is kept below a simmer so that the delicate pears don't fall apart from the agitation of the liquid.

    Creamy Pistachio Nut Filling:

    1 1/2 cups mascarpone cheese

    3 tablespoons sugar

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    1/2 cup pistachios, coarsely chopped

In a medium-sized bowl, cream the mascarpone, sugar, and vanilla together. Stir in the pistachio nuts.

Use immediately or refrigerate and return to room temperature before filling the pears.

Could also combine 2 of them

pouch pear in water mixed with a sweet red wine or a little port. Then serve dipped in melted dark chocolate, or poor sauce over (with a dash of clove and cinnamon)

I have a pear shape and would like to get rid of my belly and waist fat what can I do???

Also does going vegetarian help you lose wieght faster then regular diet meal plans??? I'm not the work out type Id like to lose the weight without the workout!
I have a pear shape and would like to get rid of my belly and waist fat what can I do???
It's nigh impossible to effectively lose weight and change your bodyshape without SOME kind of exercise. Sadly, there are genetic bodytypes that cannot be overcome. That's not to say that you can't improve your appearance, but it will be harder for some than for others and it's unlikely that you'll ever attain that "ideal" figure that you want.

Obviously, you can lose weight dangerously by way of psycho-dieting and starvation, but such weight loss is not only temporary and potentially LETHAL, but will often times cause you to rapidly gain back even more weight than you lost.

The best thing that you can do is avoid fad diets like Atkins, fruit diets, Hollywood diet... Really any "diet" is bad. Improving your dietary HABITS is what you need to do.

A good and easy thing to do is drink water exclusively. A can of sodapop ("soda" or "pop" which do I use? %26lt;lol%26gt;) is about 150 calories. If you drink that, how much do you drink in a day? Do the math. Water is cleansing and non-caloric. I HATE water... always have hated water, but even I managed to do that one and y'know what? I don't hate water anymore! It took about 5 days.

Your body type is your body type and it is very possible that even with a moderate intake of calories that your body will continue to look the same. However, if you DO overeat, consider halving your normal serving size. It'll hurt in the stomach for a few days, but soon your body will learn that "this is how much food I'm getting" and eating more than this reduced amount will eventually make you feel overfull.

HOWEVER... if you are NOT an overeater, do NOT do that! Don't. Seriously, DON'T. You run the risk of killing yourself.

But you really need to start intruducing more physical activity if you want to lose weight and alter your shape. Don't want to run on the treadmill? Don't. Just don't sit around all day (in class, in the car, at home) like most people do. There's an endless amount of exercise that people don't usually think of as exercise. Walk anywhere that you can instead of drive! Re-arrange all the furniture in your house. Try anything that keeps you on your feet like birdwatching, canoeing or camping. If someone is moving house, offer to help them! Just making the choice to avoid planting your posterior can do wonders! But if you can think of a new hobby (yoga, karate, fencing) that gets you moving but is fun, GO FOR IT!

    Best of Luck to you!
Reply:Even though you're not the workout type (I'm not either!) I don't know of many other ways to lose the weight unless you want to eat nothing but a bowl of cereal twice a day for all of your meals.

Other than that I recommend a lot of walking to and from where you're going and the faster you walk the faster you will burn off the weight. I don't recommend target exercising because it won't burn the fat off of the body, it might shape it up a bit and turn some of it into muscle but it doesn't take inches off.

Find some fun exercises to do! Not all working out has to be a chore. Go swimming and really go the extra mile and swim fast for a while. Get a nordic track or something where you can ski yourself into shape, lots of people like skiing.
Reply:how can you put away your fats if you dont like to go on workout or exercise unless you go to a Dr who is doing a lyposaction. eating the right food, drinking water and exercise will help a lot in reducing your body fats.
Reply:I have bad news for you... in order to reduce fat around your stomach you need to do at least 30 minutes of cardio per day. Also, i wouldn't suggest being a vegetarian, carbs are the worst thing for your stomach fat. You need to eat a diet rich in lean protein, and complex carbohydrates.
    Reply:Do the following:

    1) Combine cardiovascular exercises wif strength training exercises. (10minutes warm-up on treadmill followed by any two strength exercises, etc)

    2) Follow a well-balanced diet which include Protein, Fibre %26amp; complex carbohydrates.

    3) Take Apple Cider Vinegar 1st thing in the morning 1 hour before breakfast %26amp; increase intake of Fibre.

Can I save my pear tree sapling?

Today my son decided to pluck my pear tree sapling out of the pot, It is now a seven inch sapling without a root, can I save it?

Currently I have it sitting in a glass of water to cover the area where the root was, a bit up, but not covering any of the leaves. If I can save it, is there anything I can add to the water to help it re-grow the root it did have?
Can I save my pear tree sapling?
If you were able to get it in water straight after it was uprooted it may be possible to regrow it as a cutting. I can't guarantee success , the whole process is a bit time consuming and prone to failure with just one plant but it's fun to grow your own cuttings too.

You'll need to find a little pot to plant the cutting in while it grows it's roots %26amp; fill it with a cutting/seedraising mix of some sort.

Buying a commercial mix is a little over the top when you are just growing one cutting, maybe you could borrow some from someone else, or make your own approximation. A combination of course sand and potting mix should be ok, it's important to sterilize the mix (moisten it and microwave for 1-2mins or until steam forms then leave to cool).

Then prepare the cutting by making a clean cut just beneath a node (see diagram)

    http://www.wildchicken.com/nature/garden...

and gently plant it in the soil. Ideally you'd use one of the commercial softwood rooting gels or powders to encourage rooting, but you could try using honey instead. I've not used it myself, but other people have had success using honey as a rooting hormone when they've run out of the real stuff.

Then all you need to do is water the cutting regularly, and wait a few weeks for the roots to develop. As soon as the roots are there you can carefully plant the cutting back in it's original pot %26amp; hope it survives. - Good luck
Reply:What happened to the root? If you still have the root you can graft it. I'm not sure how to go about doing this but I have known people to do this type of thing, and I don't think it's that hard.

I think you need a grafting compound.

Call your local gardening store and they should be able to help you out.

How far apart should I plant pear trees for an esplier?

How far apart should fruit trees be planted for espaliering?

In espaliering, you control the plant. How wide do you want the fruit trees to be? Will you use a vertical or horizontal pattern? How many arms do you want? Each arm needs plenty of light for fruit production, so allow space to either side of each arm for leaves and open space. The verrier palmette is the most popular espalier shape. Horizontal branches are usually spaced 12" apart %26amp; this distance is maintained as each branch is turned upward. So multiple the number of vertical arms times 12" to determine the horizontal space needed for this espalier pattern.

A good illustrated guide to fruit tree espaliering is "The American Society Pruning %26amp; Training A Fully Illustrated Plant-by-Plant Manual" by Christopher Brickell %26amp; David Joyce.

Any recipes with Longaberger Cinnamon Pear Caramel Sauce?

POACHED PEARS WITH HOT CARAMEL SAUCE

6 firm ripe pears (Bartlett, Bosc)

    2 tbsp. lemon juice

    4 to 5 c. water

    CARAMEL SAUCE:

    1 c. heavy cream

    1 c. sugar

    1 tsp. vanilla

    Toasted, sliced almonds

Core pears from the bottom. Pare them without removing stems. Brush well with the lemon juice to prevent discoloration.

Bring water to boiling in large skillet. Place pears in skillet. Lower the heat and simmer, turning and basting pears occasionally, until firm-tender, 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer the pears and liquid to a deep bowl; make sure pears are completely submerged. Refrigerate until well chilled.

Prepare Caramel Sauce: Heat the cream in a small saucepan just until bubbles form around the edge; do not let boil. Heat the sugar in a large, heavy skillet over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. When sugar begins to melt, reduce heat to low and continue to stir constantly, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is light brown.

Slowly add the warm cream, stirring constantly until sauce is smooth. (If some of the sugar crystallizes, cook, stirring constantly, until the crystals dissolves.) Remove from the heat. Stir in the vanilla.

To serve, drain the pears thoroughly. Place on individual serving plates. Spoon the hot sauce over the pears. Garnish with the almonds.

NOTE: For advance preparation, make the caramel sauce ahead. Reheat very slowly over low heat, stirring constantly until hot.

  • Great clothes for my pear almost hour glass shaped body?

I have a body that is similar to America Ferrara's except I'm younger. I don't have that much cleavage but enough, lol. I was wondering what type of clothes you recommend for my body type. Anything helps thanks =D. Oh and I mean America in real life not as in Ugly Betty.
Great clothes for my pear almost hour glass shaped body?
anything that flatters her body you should copy too.
Reply:I have a pear- shape but petite, and am told i look well proportioned.

I wear push-up bra's to enhance cleavage.Usually dresses, fitted around bust, then floaty, or flow down ( hide hips, and flabby mid-section).

Wear wide leg pants, or flare leg pants/jeans , 1-2 inches longer over high shoes.

Pointy toe shoes ( though didn't particularly like to begin with) if wearing short skirts. These do seem to elongate the leg.

Don't wear heel shoes that strap around the ankle, make legs look fatter and shorter.

Dont wear clothes that draw attention to hips or stomach, like fitting pencil skirts or dresses.

    hope this helps..

Try dressing in one color as its slims you down and dont wear boot cut jeans if you are short, wear straight fit ones and plenty of flirty skirts. Avoid horizontal stripes.
    Reply:Nothing high wasted.

    Airline skirts good.

    Hipsters great.

Bootleg jeans rather than skinny leg as skinny leg will emphasise bum.
Reply:I'm the same shape as you. Wearing dark colours on the bottom is a must, draw attention to your torso instead with nice details. A-line skirts are good.

Why are my hands always sticky after eating a pear??
It's the Pears fault trying to get noticed, decades of being overlooked by apple fanciers has forced Pear evolution to adapt this cunning plot to get more attention.

How do i get rid of prickly pear cactus?

I would think just dig them up, unless you have a vast amount, in which case you will probably need some "Roundup" type of vegetation killer. If you chop them up they will root and you'll get more.

I imagine you know to be real careful about the spikes. They are quite rude.
How do i get rid of prickly pear cactus?
I would advertize in a free newspaper and see what happens-- they have to dig them up-- and don't give them away-!!- they'll wonder what's wrong with them--

Is it a good idea to get a pixie cut if you're pear-shaped?

I've been thinking about getting a pixie cut lately, and I was wondering if it would exaggerate my pear-shapedness? =P I'm not fat, but my hips are wider than the rest of me...
Is it a good idea to get a pixie cut if you're pear-shaped?
i have wide hips and totally have a pixie cut right now - it's adorable, and i don't think it looks bad at all! leave a little more length than usual, as that's more flattering than too short, but i say, go ahead!

ask your stylist for a razored pixie cut as opposed to a scissor cut! it's much trendier and softer ;)

edit: as for the girl who said it has more to do with face shape - no, as stylists, we consider the whole picture. for example, if someone's short, a super long haircut looks AWFUL as it makes them look shorter, while a taller person with the same style looks okay.

also - PIXIE CUTS ARE NOT BOYISH! no one thinks i'm a boy!

i would say, though, that big dangly earrings are your best friend! short haircuts allow you to show off your crazy, awesome style. girls with long hair can't always get away with wearing the best earrings 'cause you can't see 'em through their hair! :)
Reply:I believe it has something to do with the shape of your face not your body.
Reply:no- not at all. try putting you hair in a ponytail. it has the same effect on the eyes. it draw attention to your boobs- not your hips. If your face is round, it might highlight that, and its probably better if you have a bonier face structure. if you think you can handle it, go for it! But, keep in mind that you might have to dress a little more girly to make up for your boy-ish hair cut.

  • When do you prune a pear tree?

This would depend on the type of pear, and also the tree form ("Bush" tree, dwarf pyramid, cordon, espalier and sometimes fan.)

Then you have to consider the age of the tree and your reasons for pruning it (shape-formation, thinning of overcrowded spurs, rejuvenation etc.)

Basically, however, pruning is usually done in winter unless you have a very young tree that hasn't fruited yet and are performing formative pruning. Then the time for that is in mid-summer.

This is if you live in the U.K. or a place with a similar climate.
When do you prune a pear tree?
After all the fruit has been picked and before any flowers form.
Reply:Most pruning is done early spring before the sap starts to rise.

What kind of dress looks good on a pear body type?
I would say an A line or empire waist. They both cinch you right below the bust which is your narrowest point. Then they both flare out from there.
Reply:Something like this, and I'll tell you why:

    http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/in...

    1. The v-shape will elongate the neck.

    2. The black strip below the bust is in a spot that will accentuate the smallest part of your torso (very good).

    3. The flowy skirt will fall nicely over your curves. It won't overly accentuate your hips or anything.

    4. Halters are nice for people who have smaller shoulders.

    Hope that helps!
    Reply:Empire waist A-line

the empire waist accentuates your bust and your waist, while the A-line hides you wide hips.

if you go for prints, don't go for great big huge ones; they'll just draw attention to your shape. i would forgo prints altogether and maybe have colorful detailing instead.
