was 15 how many of each fruit did she start with? Please answer with method of calculation. Thank you.
The total number of apples and pears was 12 if each pear was traded for 2 apples and the total number of apple
Let the number of apples she started with be = 'a'

Number of pears she started with be 'p'

a + p = 12

After trading each pear for 2 apples , she had :

p = 12 - a ; 2p = 24 - 2a

a + 24 - 2a = 15

-a = -9 , i.e. a = 9 which gives p = 3

Thus she started with 9 apples and 3 pears
