I bought my house 2 yrs ago. there are 2 bradford pear trees in my front yard. The roots have taken over.?

I have little trees all over my yard. the root system is unreal. i have dug up most of my yard to get the roots and little trees out and the more I hatchet up the more they seem to grow. any suggestions i am thinking of cutting the trees down completely. the roots are so bad you can not walk in my yard especially barefooted haha...thanks

hire an arborist (someone who specializes in trees) to get the best advice
Reply:Take the tree down, hire a stump grinder, have them eat the roots too, then replant the yard.
Reply:a tree that is a true pain---the first big blow you get it will be a leaner. I would cut them down and buy some Pretty hardy but messy magnolias. I never saw one blown down after a hurricane. A magnolia grows fast and blooms within about 4 years. I started many from cuttings from a neighbors tree that hung in our yard in NC.
Reply:Remove the trees, although Bradford pear look good a few weeks out of the year (when they are in bloom) they are a weak tree and the roots are very shallow. You need to plant a stronger tree contact you city park and rec, forestry or a botanic gardens and see what type of tree they recommend for your location.
