you buy it from one of beedle's shops (the wierd guy that sells from his boat) it lets you take control of a seagull and if I remember right it is nessary to complete the game. I think there is one really annoying island that you have to use the gull to hit a switch to get one of the triforce charts. I know you need it to get some of the treasure charts. but they are just heart pieces and rupees mostly. those are optional to get.
Reply:a hyoi pear is a pear that lets you take control of the seagulls also you can get it from the little merchant person that roams the sea. you have to get the bait bag from him first you do not have to get it but it is fun and useful.
Reply:A hyoi pear is a type of bait sold at the floating bait shops. It allows you to control seagulls so you can hit switches you normally wouldn't be able to get to.

Yes, you have to get them to beat the game. If I remember correctly, two of the Triforce Charts require you to control seagulls to hit crystal switches. Since there are hostile birds in the area, I suggest you buy spares unless you are a really good shot with the bow.
Reply:A hyoi pear is an item you can use to control a seagull. It's necessary to complete the game: you need it to get some of the triforce charts. You could get some extra items using the pear (heart containers and such). You can buy them from the boat that floats around a few islands.
