Can 3ft apple and pear trees be dug up and moved position?
So long as you take enough soil and don't disturb the root system then it should be okay.
Reply:dig well round them, save as much of the 'root ball' including soil as you can (more work, better end result)

make sure the hole you dig for them is deep enough so when set the old soil mark is level with the soil.

put a good mulch in the new hole and water in well, may take a year or two to re-establish fully but should be fine.
Reply:safrican has it about right, it is a little late now, best time .end Oct to end of feb.but.........

dig up asap put root ball in some breathable material with as much soil as possible, then put back in hole until you move. at that time wrap root ball in plastic for journey.

On arrival dig new hole on water hole, remove covering, put in tree, when hole is filled after staking top dress tree with 'fish, blood and bone' fertiliser, ensure it is watered.
Reply:i dont see why not! they need some of their roots so be careful when digging them out!
Reply:Use some TLC and they will be fine,,,,
Reply:If I were you and they had to be moved I would dig them up and put them somewhere in the shade for this growing season, then move them to their final positions at the end of Autumn. Reasons are as follows:

Root disturbance will stop the roots taking up water for a while but if planted in the sun then it will evaporate the water from the leaves - so they will wilt. If you move them in winter when there is no heat in the sun then the roots will have time to recover by the time the leaves grow.
Reply:Not at this time of year , In the dormant season only (November, december, january). Make sure to take up a large root ball and water well in new position !!!
Reply:it wouldnt kill them but they wouldnt produce fruit for a few years.
Start java
