IS peach, Pear and Banana ok to feed a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo?
Yes you have gotten GREAT answers...Peaches are good but not the pits stay away from pits...Apple pits, cherry pits and so on. They are very toxic along with chocolate, onions, even honey. There is something in honey that is very, very bad for birds. I have an african gray and a blue front Amazon one of their most favorite things to eat are spare rib bones. Leave a little bit of meat on the bone and give it to your bird, not hot of course. Another thing my birds love are chicken, same thing, little bit of meat left on it. Then they shred the bone , they love the marrow. And chicken is a good source of protein for birds. Everything in moderation. Try oatmeal, and raisins are very good for them too. Tomatoes, they LOVE cherry tomatoes... Use your imagination. If it would be good for a toddler should be ok for our feathered friends.
Reply:Birds can eat the same foods that humans do. So yes, fresh fruit and vegatables are good for them. Any thing you would eat they can have. Be careful about giving too much fruit though because it can cause loose stools. Not only that it can spoil them for things they should be eating. Mangoes, papayas, apples etc are all good for them. Remember in the wild they will find and eat whatever they can. ,Make sure to feed lots of vegatables too. Peas and carrots etc...I feed my 40 year old orange wing amazon parrot any kind of vegatable and fruit that he will eat. You can buy frozen bagged vegatables and let them thaw and then feed them to your bird too. Stay away from seeds and feed a good pelleted diet. Since my two parrots were wild caught back in the day all they fed was seeds and that was mostly sunflower. It too me a very long time to get them off of the seeds but now I feed only pellets and fresh veggies and fruit.
Reply:Hey! I have a Triton Cockatoo - a type of Sulphur Crested... sooo cute! Anyway, almost all fruit is good - I can't say much that the other two people haven't probably already said. All I know off hand is that Avocado is a BIG NO NO... and they can't have apple seeds. With that said, the skins of fruits are best to keep away from unless you wash them very very well (pestisides and stuff). Peach, pear and banana are great... berries are SUPER. My very well known avian vet said that fruits are SUPER, but MORE important are veggies. We do a mix of both, but he said to make sure we push veggies also. Our bird's FAVORITE fruit is a dish of warm applesauce right before he goes to bed every night - we just make sure we get the natural applesauce so as to avoid the added sugars (especially the dreaded high fructose corn syrup!) Good luck! :-)
Reply:Everyone above has given you great advise there.

There is only one thing I want to say that wasn't mentioned at all.

Cockatoos are not natural fruit eaters. They're veggie, leafy green eaters. Fruit is extremely high is sugar %26amp; can cause obesity %26amp; other health issues if you use it as a regular part of their diets, so keep them as treats. Use a great variety of veg %26amp; cooked foods as a normal part of their diet.
Reply:Yes. All of those are fine. Just stay away from the avacado.

Also... fruits are great as a treat but try to get her/him eating more fresh veggies. Also, offer some of anything that you eat. Speggetti, salad, Pizza (little bit as a treat... they LOVE pizza) fish.... anything. Anything that is that is not on the toxic list. The more foods that you can get your parrot to eat the healthier they will be and the longer they will live. Please limit seeds to an occasional treat/suppliment and not as a diet as they are bad as a diet. Main diet should consist of a good pellet and all of the veggies and (safe) people foods that you can feed them!

Good luck
