What to do if pear tree blooms but doesn't give alot of fruit?

Thomas is somewhat right. There is a new disease roaming our country killing the honeybee population. There may be a lack of bees in your area. Without enough honeybees for pollination, you need to have at least two different varieties of pear trees to cross pollinate. This will give you a higher fruit yield. Another thing is that pear blossoms have a short season and the small amount of nectar produced is not attractive to bees. As a result of this, pear tree growers need twice as many hives placed in their orchards. More than any other type of fruit tree requires. You may wish to have a bee supplier setup a hive in your yard if it's feasible and possible in your location. If not, I would make sure I had more than one variety of pear tree planted.

Maybe there were not enough bees around to pollunate it. It could be the blooms got hit by frost too.
