When and how do you cut the limbs from bradford pear trees?

pruning begins from the bottom-up. If you are using lopers that cut with a single blade, prune away. If using a saw on a larger limb, always make a cut under the limb -that is- on the bottom side of the limb to keep the bark from splitting and peeling away when you make the top cut.

Your local extension service has free guide books andinformation on tree pruning and management. They should be listed in the Government section of your phone book.

If your in the pacific northwest you should cut them between jan 15 and mar 15 otherwise when it is coldest in your area. Cut them close to the trunk . (boy this is kinda hard without a picture, oh well here goes) Cut from the top of the branch where it touches the trunk, it will be a bit creased it's called the branch bark ridge , cut outside the ridge. Cut down but outside of the rounded bump on the bottom of the branch (collar).
Reply:always prune fruit trees when the sep is down most of the time in Feb when the signs of the moon is right
