My bradford pear trees are tall but the branches are not out, help?

I think what you mean is that the crown of the tree is still tight. This is normal for Pear. They stay compact and upright for several years. Don't worry though, pear trees will bloom out. Almost overnight they will expand outward. Usually after they are about 10 years old.

My Bradford Pear did the same thing. i started to prune the branches that went straight up. Leave any branches that growing out. If you have none at all growing out, prune one of the branches that are growing up about the level you would like to see them grow out. If you can find the lead branch cut that one in half or completely off, this will force the side branches to grow.
Reply:Bradford pear trees are tricky... I wouldn't worry too much about it. During storms, your trees just may hold up better than mine did with the branches really out.
Reply:bradford pear trees are not very good trees to have in your yard especially around the home or vehicle. speaking from experience they are very bad for splitting and/or limbs breaking off during storms or mild winds. they are very beautifull trees but need to keep them trimmed back especially height wise since the taller ones to split more easily.
Reply:What???

Need more info than this to be able to help you!
Reply:Some Bradford pear are upright-growing,columnar shaped trees growing more high than wide. For them this is normal.

Is this what you meant, or are you experiencing pests, disease or other abnormal conditions?
