Can cranberries be eaten "raw" as one would eat a cherry or a pear?

I usually just see them sold as a juice or as sauce at thanksgiving but can they be eaten like any other fruit? What do they taste like in that state?

They're a bit tart and bitter, but they can be eaten raw if you like. I like the dried ones with a little sugar.
Reply:Yes, but most people don't eat them this way because they are very tangy and have a strong almost bitter taste.
Reply:Yep, you can eat them raw. All fruits and vegetables can be eaten raw.
Reply:I've eaten many , and I like them , but they're very very sour .
Reply:they are really sour, and bitter. You cannot eat them alone...or I wouldnt.
Reply:You can eat them raw but they are very tart and acidic. You can eat dried cranberries. I don't like them so I don't eat them and when serving with poultry I serve sour pitted cherries in a light syrup instead.
Reply:Only if you like bitter, dry, tangy tastes
Reply:Of course, they taste great, a very special flavor, can't really be described. Try some! Besides they are really healthy, lots of antioxidants and stuff. ?
Reply:I made an apple/cranberry cobbler just recently w/ fresh cranberries. I never had a raw cranberry before so I tasted one. They are extremely bitter and dry. Did you ever eat crabapples as kid? That's what it reminded me of.
Reply:Yes they are very sour though
