Firstly, I would only pursue any effort if the tree is of value to you. If it's only so-so and you really don't care what happens to it, I would just let it be.
That being said. I think the only thing you can do it 'brace' it. Use 1"x6" timbers, cut a 'V' at one end, and wedge that under larger heavier limbs. Cut to the right lengths. If you'd prefer not to mess around with it, call an arborist. I think there is a more 'professional' way to achieve the same goal, but against the trunk, rather than under the limbs.
It probably won't come cheap... the arborist solution...
Minimally, I would treat the tree monthly with a garden safe insect/ ant spray, and a regular fertilizer program.
