When is the best time to prune my pear and peach trees in the northeast???

After December and before the sap usually starts running in your part of New England. It is when if you go for a ride you start to see piles of wood in the orchards all over New England.

But as you know, New England is a fickle lover!

I live West of the city of Boston and in a protected valley, so I have To be really attentive for cold weather to go prune! The colder the better! But that doesn't always happen here in the Merrimack River Vally, or, then west of 495 OH YES IT DOES!
When is the best time to prune my pear and peach trees in the northeast???
In Calif, we prune most deciduous fruit trees when they are leafless. That means Jan/Feb for us. It really shouldn't be that different where it is colder. The tree will be dormant, therfor no worries.

Reply:late fall or early spring is the ONLY time you should do this.

Reply:Once you have harvested the fruit you can prune any time. The plant likes it best in early fall so it knows where to concentrate it's energy in forming the buds that will break in spring.
Reply:december-march when they are dormant.
