What do you call the fruit/vegetible that is white...and tasteless?..it has the texture of a crunchy pear?

i can't think of the name to this fruit or vegetable...it is white......and kinda tasteless..usually people cut it and in sqaure kinda like carrot sticks....i guess some people add it to salads for txture..but it has no flavor really..what is the name of it?
